The grey-white in the above pictures are hydroids. The fluff is composed of small colonies of numerous collaborating individuals. Besides the club-headed hydroid and Dynamena plumila it is difficult to determine the specie of hydroid. Podocoryne, taggpolyp, Sarsia, Coryne, Cordylophora, Bougainvillia = Eudendrium, Campanularia, Laomedea, Obelia and Sertularellaare specie exist in shallow water. In brackish water hydras can (of the family Hydra) build a light coloured fluff on for example shells, cliffs, rocks and other flora. Each of the above pictures are about 8 cm wide. |
