Reproduction

The sand goby becames sexually mature after about 1 year. Mating take place in shallow water during the summer. The male entices the female in under an empty mussel shell where she lays a portion of her eggs. The male guards the eggs for about 9 days, where after they hatch into 3 mm long larvae that float about in the currents until they reach a length of about 17-18 mm.
